| Description |
Information Builders, Inc. was founded in 1975 by Gerald Cohen to develop a 4th-generation (non-procedural) programming language called FOCUS. FOCUS was initially offered over the Tymshare time-sharing service but, in the late 1970s, customers began to want to take their data processing inhouse creating a market for FOCUS as a software product. IBI successfully transitioned the product from mainframes to client-server to a web-based system and is still in business today.
