Name: University Computing Corporation
Sector: Processing Services

Description
University Computing Corporation (UCC) was founded by Sam Wyly in Dallas TX in 1963 to provide computer processing time to engineers at Sun Oil and other companies in the Dallas area. He started the business using a CDC 1604 purchased used from CEIR in the Washington DC area and housed it at Southern Methodist University to make it accessible to the engineers in the SMU Engineering Department. UCC was the first of many successful ventures started by Wyly and the software which supported the processing services was eventually sold to Computer Associates as part of the acquisition of Sterling Software, a successor company to UCC.
